Kia PV5 WKNDR Wins Silver at the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2025

Dubai, UAE – The innovative design of the Kia PV5 WKNDR has been honored with a Silver Award in the Automotive and Transportation category at the prestigious International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2025. This recognition underscores Kia’s forward-thinking design philosophy and its competitive strength on the global stage.

The IDEA Awards, presented by the Industrial Designers Society of America, are considered one of the world’s most distinguished design competitions. This accolade highlights Kia’s vision for its new generation of Purpose-Built Vehicles (PBVs).

The Kia PV5 WKNDR concept is an adventurous, self-sufficient truck inspired by the brand’s upcoming PBV lineup. Designed for maximum versatility, the vehicle features a highly flexible and adjustable interior that can be easily modified to expand space and functionality.

A major innovation is the “Gear Head,” a unique external storage solution that provides a protected space for equipment when the vehicle is stationary. This feature optimizes internal space while keeping outdoor gear easily accessible. The “Gear Head” can even be converted into a mobile pantry, ideal for culinary enthusiasts preparing meals in scenic environments.

The PV5 WKNDR model is engineered for self-sufficiency. It is equipped with solar panels and wheels featuring micro-hydro turbines capable of recharging the batteries, even in remote, off-road environments. Furthermore, the interior prioritizes sustainability through the use of eco-friendly materials, such as Nike Grind flooring made from recycled athletic shoes, which combines practical utility with aesthetic appeal.

Karim Habib, Head of Kia Global Design, commented on the win: “Receiving this recognition from IDEA is a great honor. It proves the impact and value of Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy in guiding our future design vision. Such awards commend the dedication of our global team and drive us to continue innovating and strengthening Kia’s commitment to delivering products that are relevant and provide genuine value to our customers.”

Submissions for the IDEA Awards are evaluated by a multidisciplinary international jury of over 40 judges based on criteria including design innovation, aesthetics, user benefits, and societal and brand benefits. This comprehensive approach reinforces the award’s standing and acknowledges winners who excel across all aspects of product development. The Silver Award for the Kia PV5 WKNDR solidifies Kia’s leadership in design innovation within the rapidly evolving automotive landscape.
