RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – Thai AirAsia X (XJ) today announced the launch of its inaugural non-stop service between Riyadh (RUH), Saudi Arabia, and Bangkok (DMK), Thailand, marking AirAsia Group’s strategic expansion into the Middle East.
The new route will commence on 2 December 2025, operating four times weekly every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. The direct service significantly reduces travel time to approximately seven and a half hours, facilitating seamless connections for both leisure and business travellers.
Fares for the new route start from an all-inclusive 1,290 SAR one way for standard seating and 4,760 SAR one way for a Premium Flatbed.
Ms. Pattra Boosarawongse, CEO of Thai AirAsia X, hailed the launch as a significant milestone: “Riyadh is a strategic destination that aligns with AirAsia Group’s network development. This new route offers travellers from Riyadh direct access to the best of Bangkok—from its rich culture to its world-class hospitality—and serves as a convenient gateway to AirAsia’s extensive network across ASEAN, Asia, and Japan.”
The launch was lauded by local officials. H.E. Mr. Darm Boontham, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Saudi Arabia, stated: “This route marks a new era of connectivity between the two Kingdoms, building bridges for trade, investment, cultural exchange, and personal connections.”
Mr. Ahman Mad-Adam, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Dubai, added that the direct link will strengthen people-to-people ties and is expected to position Saudi Arabia as one of Thailand’s fastest-growing source markets. He highlighted Thailand’s appeal for Saudi visitors, including world-class medical tourism, halal-friendly services, and diverse family attractions in destinations like Phuket and Chiang Mai.
The flights will be operated by the widebody Airbus A330 aircraft, configured with 285 seats, including 30 Premium Flatbeds. In line with its low-cost model, the airline offers customisable services, allowing guests to purchase add-ons like baggage and hot meals—which include middle-east inspired options. Furthermore, Saudi nationals will benefit from Thailand’s simplified e-visa and visa-on-arrival facilities.
